BIO

Welcome to my web site.

My interest in architecture was evident starting at the age of 10 when I would explore the nearby tract homes under development studying the construction and then trying to ascertain the “feeling” that the rooms would have whjen completed. My studies, though, led me to engineering since I felt I was much more right brained than left...or is it the other way around?

As an adult, the second home I purchased was an Eichler which is a tract home with similar characteristics to the famous California Case Study homes of the late 50’s and early 60’s. Living in the home for 7 years had a profound effect on my life. Remodeling, landscaping and decorating this home gave me a great deal of satisfaction and confidence and led me to pursue my passion regarding contemporary homes. I did this over the years by planning remodels for many friends gratis.

As an engineer I developed medical devices, consumer electronics and toys receiving 5 patents along the way. When I retired I was able to pursue my real passion, contemporary design.

In 1999 my husband and I moved into our custom home that was designed for us by Jerrold E. Lomax who had a hand in some of the Case Study homes previously mentioned. I was intimately involved in the design and all of the material choices. I also did the interior design detailing many built-ins while my husband did most of the construction.

To every job I bring an engineering past along with my recent experience at the Academy of Art and my passion for contemporary design.

From my engineering past I am organized and detail oriented. I know how to schedule, manage projects and bring them in within budget. From my studies at the Acadeny of Art I have learned historical design references, communication graphics and 3d rendering.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy guides me in every decision I make on every project.

Environments affect lives in profound ways. Usually the only environment you can control is your personal living space and controlling this is controlling a major part of your daily experience. If your outside experiences are stressful and hectic you might want a serene and quiet retreat to come home to, if your daily life is boring and unstimulating you might choose a vibrant and energetic living space. Whether you need neutral colors and subtle textures or bold colors with dynamic shapes your home should satisfy your emotional needs.

I believe people should be happiest in their own space. Why copy something from a magazine or a neighbor just because it looks appealing? A person’s space should reflect their own personality, and only then will it be truly theirs.

Interiors should reflect the age in which we live not a reproduction of a past world. Reflecting current times does not mean being trendy. To be “of today” means designed with our planet’s and our personal health in mind. “Green”, “ecologically sound”, “environmentally friendly”, “treading lightly on the earth”, “reduce, reuse, recycle” all try to capture the growinag awareness and immediacy of the problems we have created and are now faced with reversing or at least not worsening. Social responsibility should be a consideration for any new or remodel design.
